Ladies’ choice

October 16, 2010

Today, my child was conceived. By now, he or she (or them) has been tucked cozily into a warm, inviting petri dish. Meanwhile, I’m 20 miles away, watching last week’s “Gossip Girl” and enjoying an ice cream sandwich. Not the best creation story, but no worse than “Mommy got drunk at a bar” or “Mommy married the last guy standing before her eggs shriveled up.”

In our defense, we gave it the old college (or, depending on your personal story, week-after-graduation) try, so that we could at least know there was something traditional about this process. It was actually a threesome, as one of the cats would not leave the room.

Sometime Sunday, I will get a phone call telling me how many sperm went home with someone at the Embryo Mixer.

It’s weird how your life can be so normal (Seriously, I can’t believe Chuck Bass told Blair “I almost forgot how much I enjoyed your pie”) and yet, just 30 minutes away, it may be going into a happy upheaval.

I went to high school with the guy who played Lord Marcus on Gossip Girl. I don’t really know what that means, because I don’t watch it, but high school girls go A-P-E.

Good luck, lady, may your uterus be hospitable and become grossly distended over the next 9 months.

Thank you! You gotta love having “Lord Marcus” listed on your resume and it’s not a period piece.
